Spinsauce Rig - Surge The Tenrec - Riders Style - V1
WARNING - AMATEUR PROJECT.
I feel the need to put that in there because this is my first publicly available rig. I have NOT been doing 3d art for very long beyond making renders with other people's content. This is my first real step in learning the process of creating this kind of asset from scratch. The rig and weight painting are by far the weakest part of this project and that is something I'm very much aware of, but it's currently outside of my skill set to fix it. I hope to continue learning though, and hopefully in the future that V1 in the title can become a V2. Another issue is that because I'm still learning, the topology is not the best, and it's likely less optimized than it should be. This is also something I'm still learning. This is very much a passion project, I wanted to see this model made, and I wanted to learn to model.
With all that out of the way. I'm introducing this model I created for Surge the Tenrec, themed after her Riders gear in the most recent (as of now) IDW arc. I've been working on this for a while and I'm happy to finally get it released out into the world. I'd love to see any art made with this, so please if you make something with this, tag me in it or send it to me somehow. I'd be happy to see it!
- As detailed in the image above. This is a custom made model. I referenced a lot of things but ultimately I created it. Along with the textures which I painted in substance painter.
- The rig is a modified Rigify rig. I used rigify for the torso, arms, and legs but I altered the hands to be more suited to the model. I prefer how my hand rig works but it is different(and potentially less detailed) than the rigify rig, and I added extra bones for the "hair" and ears. Not many edits honestly but again this was all a learning experience for me.
- The face, namely the eyebrows, mouth, and nose, are controlled by Shape Keys. I could pretend this was a purposeful, stylistic decision but in actual fact I simply couldn't get a bone based rig to look the way I wanted it to in these areas, this is a limitation of my skill(skill issue lmao) and I hope that in future rigs and even in a revisit to this one once I've learned more, that I can fix that.
- PLEASE NOTE. The model features a decent number of subdivision modifiers, as such I have enabled Simplify on the model, this means the fingers and stuff will look weird at first. In order to see how the fingers normally look, untick the simplify button in the render settings area of the properties panel. Just keep in mind that with simplify off it's likely to lag.
- Usage Rights: Honestly? Rip this apart, edit it, make changes, use it in projects, whatever you want really. Hell if you wanna re-rig the model to your own standards then I definitely wont stop you, you cant do a worse job than me at it lmao. I'm not very picky, all I ask is that you credit me, and let me know where you've used it. I wanna see the cool stuff she ends up in!
